If you’ve just welcomed a little one (or if you are about to) during the winter months, you might be wondering whether it’s too cold to leave the house for a newborn session. It’s such a tender time, and it’s completely natural to want to protect your baby from the chill.

But winter sessions can be some of the most beautiful, peaceful, and cosy moments to capture. With the right preparation and a warm, calm studio environment, it’s absolutely possible to have a gentle, nourishing experience, one that honours this sacred chapter in your family’s story.

My studio in Doreen is softly heated and thoughtfully set up to feel like a quiet little space away from the world. Everything is in place to keep your baby warm and relaxed, wraps, blankets, soft lighting, and a pace that allows you to slow right down. The moment you step inside, you can exhale. You don’t need to worry about the cold, the mess, or if your baby will “cooperate.” They are already enough, just as they are.

I will take baby for you and sit in front of the heater, get them dressed in a knitted romper of your choice, wrap them in a wrap and then add an extra layer with a beautiful knit textured blanket.

The winter light in the studio has a softness to it that feels like it was made for newborns. It gently fills the space without being harsh or overpowering. The result is timeless,  images filled with presence that reflect the stillness of this season in your life the kind you’ll look back on and remember how it all felt, not just how it looked.

And while winter can feel like a time to hibernate, it’s also a time to reflect, to pause, and to truly connect with what matters. A newborn session in these quieter months becomes a little pocket of presence, a chance to soak in your baby without the outside noise.
